Still spreading Sunshine in 2022, 40 years and going!

1988. The year of my first midlife crisis, the beginning of the most meaningful part of my life second only to Dana. It was my 1st week of summer camp at Camp Sunshine, waterfront staff with fellow volunteers I still see back at camp, year after year, and with an increasing number of our former campers grown up and joining us too. I’ve missed a dozen weeks of summer camp since that first year, but pediatric cancer has just rolled on, with Camp Sunshine continuing to spread rays of hope for children with cancer and their families...year round, at home, at Camp Twin Lakes, in GA hospitals, and all around GA and beyond, and with COVID triggering even greater efforts to reach and support our campers and their families.
What a privilege it has been for me to get to share this extraordinary experience with so many over the years, and to have my life touched by too many who are no longer with us. I carry them back with me year after year, only hoping that I can live my life a little better having known them.
To see the look on the face of a blind camper riding a bike, an amputee flying up a climbing wall, and to simply witness the joy on the faces of kids who are allowed to just be kids, even for a little while... You think YOU'VE been isolated by COVID, try being an immunocompromised kid!
Best of all, the cost to attend Camp Sunshine summer camp is not a factor, thanks to the generosity of all of you. We volunteers hold a 5K run/2K walk every year at camp, off Keencheefoonee Road (or virtually as needed!) to raise the funds to underwrite the cost of EVERY camper’s week of summer camp. This year we're celebrating our 40th year BACK ON SITE at Camp Twin Lakes!
In the 21 years of the Keencheefoonee Road Race, we’ve raised over 4 MILLION DOLLARS through this grass roots effort. Every single donation goes directly to our summer camp cost, so whether it’s $1 or $10,000, a corporate sponsorship, or something in between, it all counts.
Please use the link to donate directly. No amount is too small. I know it’s been a tough year for many, and any amount or words or support are very, very much appreciated. And, if you cannot donate - or even if you can - please share this link https://tinyurl.com/MarlaKRR2022.
All the best,
Marla
P.S. As a Rodan + Fields Consultant I will be donating any profits for sales between now and camp to Camp Sunshine so that people can take care of themselves while supporting camp.
